“Anthropocene Ectype”

This design research project engages with futures surrounding decommissioned military sites, legacies of fear, climate crisis, and the threat of ecosystems collapse in the Sonoran Desert and surrounding Mesas. An exploration of Cold War histories and the emerging cultural phenomena of “Dark Tourism” is coupled with efforts to stabilize and protect species from extinction and climate destabilization drawing upon indigenous Hopi practices . This project recasts existing military infrastructures as new landscapes and systems for environmental defense through the design of a 'proving grounds' for new practices and techniques - grounds for experimentation in a clutural landscape in flux.
