This project aims to balance cost and performance to offer an efficient home in a small Detroit lot. The result is a house built from modified concrete masonry units that maximize insulation and simplify structural systems while simultaneously reducing labor costs. Designed with the traveling young professional in mind, the home offers quiet, introspective spaces, including an area to sit and read and a space to do morning yoga and meditations. Plentiful natural light pours in through the large windows while a series of folding doors open up to a private courtyard blurring the edge between interior and exterior spaces.
