“The Amphibious Cell”

Life begins in the river. For centuries, people inhabited the fluid shorelands and relied on water for their livelihood. As the river and land were gradually urbanized, they became fixed, competing categories demarcated by hard boundaries. Once experiential, water turned quantifiable: too much or too little (flooding/drought). Never ok if unexpected. With the changing climate, those variable conditions are becoming more permanent and acute. In the next decades, more intense precipitation will turn land into wetness, disrupting local populations. This project aims to propose a self-sufficient amphibious riverfront community in 2050 to adapt to live with water thus creating a new cycle of life.
