“Playful Shifts”
This house is interested in the pulling and pushing of floors, walls, and beams that result in a shift of the scales. Firstly, dividing the first floor into three spaces and stepping up the second floor around central beams results in a division of scale and space. Secondly, the central beams of the house are arranged in a linear manner that opens up the space and also creates new opportunities for movement, vision, and use. These design strategies are particularly suited to the needs of two young siblings, providing them with a playful and engaging environment. As the floors step up closer to the roof, the space becomes more intimately scaled to the needs of the children, promoting a sense of comfort and familiarity.
