“Nesting”

The Detroit neighborhood of Corktown was bisected by I-75 causing North Corktown’s population to dwindle. Currently, the neighborhood is defined by many empty lots, and very few homes. Nesting proposes a sensitive housing development for North Corktown as populations rise due to new economic opportunities afforded by the Ford led renovation of Michigan Central Station. The proposal mimics the historic scale and fabric of the neighborhood, and proposes a radically adaptive housing type that changes with the generational needs of families.
