“Distorted Nature:
Fragmented Visions”

This center provides new outlooks on “nature” via color-based, dis/re-orientation devices relative to specific animal species. Appearing as disconnected, vividly colored shards of dichroic glass, the structures slice through the steep, densely forested site. Below ground, the fragments connect one to another and create a continuous perimeter containment space that separates “human animals” from those more “wild.” Through an abstract framing system that mimics the optical dispersions of forest canopies, a disorienting array of colorful shadows falls on the interior spaces. This proposal aims to produce a vision of nature so “wild” that it will be seen in a new light and color. Literally.
