“Forestry Mulching Service Center”

Clear cutting is a violent process. Despite its efficiency at blank-canvasing project sites, excessive practice threatens biodiversity. Fortunately, there is a gentler alternative... Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses special mulcher attachments to turn trees into fertilizing wood chips, in-situ. This facility, sited in Ann Arbor, contains three programs: equipment storage, a community materials exchange, and maker studios—all serving the distribution and reuse of site remnants. The architecture exists in two postures, erect and slanted, as expressed in the pillars and façade texture. Interlocked by one corridor, the center appears monolithic in elevation, but as a cluster of independent forms from above.
