“Pawned Playground”

The central goal of this project is to create a temporary space that makes the life of plastic visible after its intended use. This is done by creating a recycling facility that invites people to engage with material on site through the act of play. Old tires, crates, bottles, soundproofing tiles, and planks turn into basketball hoops and catapults, essentially proposing that creativity with "trash" can be a solution for some of the waste that humanity has produced. This Pawned Playground thus begins to resemble precedents like adventure and brutalist playgrounds with an additional component of sustainabilty and education.
