“Precise Fit”

Working with a 3-axis CNC router to create 3D forms using 2D and 3D cutting operations is a great way to explore the relationship between the mass of the material and the volume it contains.Much like a 3D puzzle, the approach we found intriguing involved creating a set of interlocking parts that could be assembled in a variety of ways to enclose a volume. This would allow for a lot of design flexibility in terms of size and shape, as well as a sense of play and experimentation with different configurations.
